There are times when I consider the electromagnetic wave spectrum since I am a visual artist and scientist. A typical human eye can respond to wavelengths from about 380 to 740 nm. We can detect only the visible light, which is a very limited area of the total electromagnetic wave spectrum covering waves with frequencies ranging from below one hertz to above 1025 hertz, corresponding to wavelengths from thousands of kilometers down to a fraction of the size of an atomic nucleus. I sometimes enjoy try to imagine the different world we could see if we could detect a much wider spectrum including IR and UV. If I can see the all spectrum from sounds to gamma-rays, I could see this world very differently from what I see now. At the same time, I feel that I am detecting the all spectrum not only by my sense of sight but also auditory sense, sensation, and my sixth sense. I wish I could express the total feeling with catching the total spectrum to share the beauty by using a special media, watercolor.
